South Korean rock band BTS performed in the opening ceremony. Apart from this, Fahad Al Qubaisi also presented his art to the fans. About 32 teams are participating in this tournament. All these teams have been divided into groups of four each and a total of eight groups have been formed. The opening match of the World Cup took place between Qatar and Ecuador.

After the group round, a total of 16 teams will reach the quarterfinals, after which the knockout matches will begin. The final match of the tournament will be played on 18 December.

Qatar got defeated in the opening match

The first match of the FIFA World Cup was played between Qatar and Ecuador. In this match, Ecuador has given a crushing defeat to the host team by 2-0. Qatar will now return to the tournament by winning the upcoming matches against Netherlands and Senegal. This is the first time in the history of the FIFA World Cup that the host team had to face defeat in the opening match.
